Kristine Andreassen joined NIOM as a visiting researcher in January and will be a part of the institute’s scientific community until the end of May. She comes from Sandnessjøen and holds a master’s degree in bionanotechnology from NTNU, as well as a PhD in cardiology from Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo.
At NIOM, Kristine is researching the release of microplastics from different occlusal device materials when subjected to mechanical wear.
“We then expose cells to these microplastics to evaluate whether they have any adverse effects,” she explains.
Kristine learned about the opportunity to be a visiting researcher at NIOM through her colleague Ketil H. Haugli, also a former visiting researcher at NIOM, while working at OsloMet.
“Being a visiting researcher at NIOM has allowed me to expand my research skills with new methods and knowledge within an exciting and relevant field,” she says.
“The best part about working here has been how kind and helpful everyone is. I am impressed by how quickly and efficiently we got the project up and running, and I’ve learned a lot in just a few months,” Kristine adds.
