New Managing Director at NIOM

Professor Per Vult von Steyern, 62, from Malmö, has commenced as Managing Director of NIOM, as of May 1. Professor Vult von Steyern is Doctor of Odontology and former chair of the Department of Materials Science and Technology, Faculty of Odontology, Malmö University, Sweden. He is a licensed specialist in Prosthodontics, and scientist with dental ceramics as his main field of research. He is currently also President of the Swedish Dental Society and the leaving president of the Scandinavian Society for Prosthetic Dentistry.

His predecessor, Professor Jon E. Dahl, retires May31, after leading the institute since 2011, and overlapping in May, a good transition period and effective

knowledge transfer is ensured.
– It is a professionally stimulating and challenging position, to be the Managing Director of NIOM. I know Per as an accomplished scientist with long experience in leading complex organizations. His appointment will significantly strengthen cooperation within the Nordic countries, and with relevant divisions of NORCE. I am convinced that Per will be an excellent leader of NIOM, Dahl says.

Nordic profile

NIOM’s main activities are dental research and testing of biomaterials. The Institute promotes greater cooperation between the Nordic countries within these fields. Among other initiatives, NIOM hosts several guest researchers each year. The institutes primary purpose is to contribute to ensuring that the materials and equipment used in dentistry in the Nordic countries are safe and appropriate.
– The appointment of Vult von Steyern means NIOM will be ideally set to maintain and strengthen both its Nordic profile, and its strong position within materials research and testing, says Helge Tennebø, Chair of the NIOM Board.
