Guest researchers are a welcome part of our community at NIOM. This has not changed in the past months. Even though some have had to postpone their visits, others, like Dr. Jingwei He, got here just in time.
– Right now, I am working on a project concerning preparation and characterization of dental resin composites with anti-adhesion effect against bacteria, Jingwei explains.
Jingwei came to NIOM via the University of Turku, Finland, where he has worked with Professor Pekka K. Vallittu and others.
The laboratories
– It is very comfortable here. I can use every instrument, whenever I want. It makes doing research a lot easier, he says.
Jingwei was last at NIOM in 2014. As this is not his first time, we wanted to ask what he likes best about being here.
– NIOM has very good laboratories, and the people here are always happy to help. It is strange times right now, but there are no problems with doing research work here, he says.
Behind closed borders
Jingwei arrived on February 15th and was supposed to leave on May 15th. But with the borders closed, his situation is unsure.
– The director, Jon Dahl, and Hilde Kopperud, the Head of Laboratory, have said they will extend my stay if necessary. I am very thankful for that, but I also hope I can go home as scheduled. As a university lecturer, I have a responsibility to my students at the South China University of Technology, in Guangzhou, he says.
For now, his solution is online lecturers, starting up this week.
