Nordic Institute of Dental Materials (NIOM) is arranging a course on bioceramic engineering with a focus on ceramic materials used in dentistry.
What will you learn?
- How crystal structure and chemical bonding give ceramics their properties
- Behaviors of fine (micro- or nano-sized) powders, granulates and powder dispersion
- Driving forces for sintering and commonly used sintering methods in dentistry
- Forming methods for different geometric designs of ceramic components
- How to analyze the fracture surface of a ceramic material
- Optical properties of ceramics
- Mechanical properties of ceramics, including knowledge about ISO-standards for mechanical testing
- Fracture toughening mechanisms, such as transformation toughening and crack deflection
- Hands-on lab sessions
Who is it intended for?
Ph.D. students, researchers and specialists in prosthetic dentistry (materials science) with interest in ceramic materials
Time and place
The course consists of 9 days divided into three gatherings hosted at NIOM in Oslo:
- 16th to 18th of October 2024
- 20th to 22nd of November 2024
