NIOM has now been granted a five-year renewal of its accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17025 following a renewal assessment conducted by Norwegian Accreditation.

All non-conformities identified during the assessment visit in March have now been closed after the first round of corrective actions. The renewed accreditation confirms that NIOM continues to meet the requirements for quality, competence and reliability in testing and laboratory operations.

“This is the result of long-term and systematic quality work. NIOM has highly skilled employees with broad expertise and extensive knowledge in their respective fields. The renewal demonstrates that we perform testing to a high standard and in accordance with international requirements,” says Inger Sofie Dragland, Quality Manager at NIOM.

Accreditation is important both for NIOM and for its clients. It provides independent verification that testing methods, equipment and laboratory processes meet the requirements in the appropriate product standard as well as in ISO/IEC 17025.

“In practice, this means that our clients can obtain accredited test results for regulatory purposes, including submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and to Notified Bodies operating under the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR). For many of the companies and organisations we work with, this is a key requirement,” says Hilde Molvig Kopperud, Chief Technology Officer at NIOM.

NIOM is also continuing its work to expand its accredited scope. The institute is currently working to include the method for fatigue testing of dental implants by dynamic loading according to ISO 14801.

The method is expected to be approved once the remaining documentation has been submitted and reviewed by Norwegian Accreditation.

“We believe this method will strengthen our service portfolio and create new opportunities for projects and collaborations in the years ahead,” says Kopperud.
