New webinar: Minimally Invasive Caries Treatment in Practice

In this webinar Professor and dentist Aida Mulic gives a lecture on modern cariological assessments, emphasizing prevention, risk assessment, and minimally invasive treatment.

Caries is the most common disease in the oral cavity that create challenges in daily clinical practice. An important part of our strategy, in collaboration with patients, is to facilitate the prevention of disease to maintain healthy teeth.

The webinar highlights the importance of identifying high-risk patients through medical history, clinical examination, as well as dietary- and saliva analysis, providing individually tailored preventive measures. It also presents the health-promoting and caries-preventive program for adults, where interventions vary according to individual caries activity level.

The webinar outlines:

  • Only 10% of patients account for 80% of caries, highlighting the need for targeted prevention. The preventive care should be individualized based on patient`s risk level.
    • Key preventive strategies for the risk patients include:
    • Behavior changes and patient motivation
    • Daily toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste
    • Fluoride use (toothpaste, rinses, varnish, gel, SDF)
    • Interdental cleaning (floss or interdental brushes)
    • Dietary assessment and reduction of sugar intake
    • Structured follow-ups and shorter recall intervals
    • Combined home care and professional treatment

The goal with caries treatment is maximum tissue preservation, treating caries as minimally invasively as possible, and using operative treatment only when necessary.
