Silvio Uhlig

Dr. Scient.
Silvio Uhlig's general research interests extend from the organic and analytical chemistry of biomaterials, i.e., the development of chemical analytical methods for the detection and characterization of relevant molecules related to biomaterial leakage, their biotransformation and effects in biological test systems, to relevant natural product chemistry. He is currently involved in projects that investigate the leakage of chemicals from dental polymers using a saliva model, characterize the reaction of methacrylates with biologically relevant thiols, study the production of nucleotides in biomaterial-colonizing bacteria, and apply metabolomics in an oral health perspective.
Silvio has a background in chemical engineering, organic and analytical chemistry from the University of Applied Sciences, Dresden, Germany, and the University of Oslo, Norway. He had professional experience with Zeneca Specialties Manchester, UK and Institute for Energy Technology Kjeller, Norway before taking on a project in mycotoxin chemistry and toxicology to receive a doctoral degree from the Norwegian Veterinary Institute/Norwegian School of Veterinary Science Oslo, Norway (2005). Professional experience as a senior researcher at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute and National Institute of Occupational Health; senior researcher at NIOM since 2022.
