This year has been an exciting one, both personally and for NIOM. I have taken the reins as the new CEO, and as a company, we continue to ensure that dental biomaterials are safe and effective in the Nordic countries.

Research has always been a major obligation for NIOM. Projects are clinically oriented and are directed towards the discovery of new information about dental biomaterials, especially physical and chemical characteristics, clinical properties, and the safety of patient and dental personnel. We have during the year been part of more than 20 scientific publications together with visiting scientist and other international experts. NIOM funds a visiting scientist programme to promote exchange of scientist from the Nordic countries. Since the establishment of the programme in 1979, over 100 scientists have visited NIOM to undertake joint research with our NIOM scientists. As the Nordic competence centre for dental materials, we have continued to answer clinically related questions regarding use and selection of dental materials for the dental community.

NIOMs strength lies within our people, our organisation, and the operating principles we’ve created together. We provide information activities through newsletters, presentations, webinars, courses, and research. In 2023, we attended several international events, held more than 26 presentations, and offer more than 20 lectures and courses to ensure that our knowledge is shared.

Last but not least, I want to thank our employees and partners for the incredible contributions and collaboration throughout 2023. I look forward to continuing this incredible journey with you in 2024. In the meantime, I wish you a joyful, relaxing holiday and a happy new year.

Best regards,

Per Vult von Steyern,
Professor and CEO
