NIOM promotes patient safety in the Nordic countriesNIOM is a unique independent institution for dental materials testing and research which promotes patient safety through its work, the Control Committee of the Nordic Council concluded after having inspected NIOM in 2013. The Control Committee’s main task is to exercise control over activities financed by joint Nordic funds as well as to ensure that resolutions are implemented.

NIOM exercises high Nordic value, the Committee explained, by demonstrating and developing Nordic cooperation in the field of dental materials. In addition, the cost-effectiveness of the work done at NIOM was superior to similar activities if done at national level. NIOM also strengthens the Nordic impact in international fora, the Committee concluded in its report to the Nordic Council. The Nordic Council is the official inter-parliamentary body in the Nordic Region and has 87 elected members from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden as well as from the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland.
